Leaving on a Jet Plane

We'll we're just about packed for our Rocky Mountain excursion....my biggest challenge may not be fighting to breath at altitude, or even cresting 10,000ft peaks. Rather: how do I get my bike onto the plane without being charged the $80 "handling" fee? One experienced traveling cyclist wraps his frame in bubble wrap, puts it a garment bag, and then carries it onto the plane-hanging it up in the garment rack with the suits before taking his seat. I'm guessing that was before all the security measures though. I'm sure to get some raised eyebrows if I attempt to pass a bike frame through the security screener....
Anyway, we will certainly take lots of pictures which we’ll post upon our return.
Until then, keep the rubber side down and don't stop pedaling!
